This is a favorite old recipe that we make for Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Yields4 ServingsPrep Time45 minsCook Time30 minsTotal Time1 hr 15 mins
1large turnip or rutabagas
1piece of soft bread crumbs
2well-beaten eggs
flour (use judgement - usually just a spoonful or two)
1tspbrown sugar
½tspbaking powder
½tspeach salt & pepper
2tbspbutter
Topping (optional)
a handful of bread crumbs, or crushed chips or corn flakes, dotted with butter
Note: This recipe is fairly small. If you are cooking for a bigger group, double or triple the recipe. I usually use 6 or more turnips/rutabagas which leaves some for leftovers 🙂

Peel turnip, cut into chunks and boil until soft. Mash well.
