Seven Layer CasseroleMy friend Leslie’s family used to make this a lot. Nice for an easy, stick-to-the-ribs dinner. Sometimes we add some extra sausages.
Snip DoodleA childhood favourite. We made this many times as kids. I love the cinnamon-sugar topping which would get crispy.
Baking Powder Biscuits / Strawberry ShortcakeThis is from my very old cookbook “Fun with Cooking”, by Mae Blacker Freeman. It features a 50’s-era teenage girl with ribbons on either side of her head showing us how to cook her favourite things. You can also modify this recipe for strawberry shortcake by adding 2 tbsp sugar into the dough
Shepherd’s PieMom and Grandma used to make this one a lot – one of my favourite comfort foods.
Sherri’s Key Lime PieFor many years, our friends Winston & Sherri visited us and cooked up fabulous treats. This was one of them. I remember juicing many little limes which took a while but it was delicious!
Dave’s Grandma’s Tea BiscuitsThese are easy biscuits that don’t require rolling and cutting. Dave made these for us with his yummy Jambalaya many years ago. Delicious! The original recipes says to dip into balsamic vinegar and oil. Use cornmeal in place of white flour for a southern version.
Dave’s JambalayaDave made this for us quite a while ago and it was very delicious! This is great served with biscuits.
Cream Cheese Fruit DipsThese dips are nice with various fruits for parties. The cream cheese/marshmallow cream version is my favorite!
Grandma’s caramel puddingI’ve tried some other recipes and they weren’t the same as Grandma’s version – the cooked sugar really works to make that delicious caramel flavour.
Banana Pie DessertThis is like a banana pie without a traditional crust. Sofi loves it. She’s asked for it for her birthday cake. I’ve made it more healthy lately by using gluten free cookies for the crust, and substituting the whipping cream with coconut whipped cream.
Jap ChaeFrom the ‘Noodles Every Day’ cookbook. “Chap Chae’ is a classic Korean dish made with sweet potato cellophane noodles. Stir fried with veggies and julienned meat, it is a perfect light dish. This is one of my favorite Asian dishes!
PopoversPart of Sofi’s grade 3 recipe book of everyone’s favourites. Katherine’s description: “I chose this recipe because they blow up and you can put whatever you want inside them.”
Old Fart’s Spaghetti SauceWe all love Dad’s special spaghetti sauce. Every time we see him he makes a pot of it for us. Yum. This recipe makes about 20 servings.
Shortbread cookiesThese are melt-in-your mouth little cookies that we’ve always made for Christmas. Grandma used to add a bit of red or gree dried maraschino cherry in the middle which gave them a festive touch.
Grandma’s BBQ sauceA perennial favourite! Use to baste meat, marinate chicken before cooking it, pour over sausages for baking, or on top of a meatloaf. Yummy!
Grandma’s Chocolate RollThis is a cake that Grandma Betty used to make. It’s my Dad’s favorite. It’s nice because it is light and airy (there are a lot of egg whites), with very little flour. You just make a very flat cake and then roll it up with whipped cream (or you could use another filling if you wanted to). It might even work as a gluten-free version with rice flour

This is a selection of our favourite family recipes, so we can keep them and pass them down. Please send the ones you love so I can add them too. The only rule is, you must have tried the recipe first. Enjoy!
