Mandarin ChickenThis is a delicious recipe with a sweet orangey sauce – unless you hate cooked fruit 🙂 Use gluten-free panko crumbs for a gluten-free version.
Rob’s Skillet SauerbratenDad used to make this when we were little. From the photos I see online, it should be served with sweet & sour red cabbage and Knodel (german bread dumplings) or boiled potatoes. So I’ll have to figure out how to make those as well!
Thai Coconut Curry ShrimpThis is a recipe Winston and Sherri made for us. We tried to use it at our wedding, but in the large quantity it didn’t thicken properly, so don’t try that 🙂 Serve over basmati or jasmine rice with a squeeze of lime and chopped fresh coriander leaves. The sauce can be prepared well ahead and refrigerated.
Teriyaki SauceGrandma used to make these with pork cutlets, but the sauce itself is usable for many things.
Tarragon chicken with wineThis is from a very old binder that Jillian made… a long long time ago before the internet was born. Makes 4 servings.
Cardamom chicken with yoghurt and almondThis is another delicious recipe from Ottolenghi – check out all their delicious stuff! We have a few of their books and every recipe is amazing. The recipe is likely Israeli and full of flavour, and I don’t have a photo so I’ve added this lovely photo of Tel Aviv.
Greek RibsPart of Sofi’s grade 3 recipe book of everyone’s favourites. Faith’s description: “I chose this recipe because it has a yummy touch of lemon juice. My family likes these ribs so I think others will too.”
Monterey Jack BurgersThis recipe is one of the HelloFresh recipes that Lizzy got. It was delicious with the caramelized onion jam and the crisply broccoli. I like adding some breadcrumbs and an egg to the burger patties as well. I haven’t had much luck finding potato buns around here, but they were sure delicious! Try the accompanying broccoli with the Aoli as well.
Grandma’s BBQ sauceA perennial favourite! Use to baste meat, marinate chicken before cooking it, pour over sausages for baking, or on top of a meatloaf. Yummy!
Marinated Sweet & Sour FishThis is a delicious and exotic fish recipe from one of our favourite recipe books, Jerusalem. Chefs and business partners Yotam Ottolenghi (an Israeli Jew) and Sami Tamimi (a Palestinian Arab), write about the city they grew up on opposite ends of. “In this soup of a city it is completely impossible to find out who invented this delicacy and who brought that one with them. The food cultures are mashed and fused together in a way that is impossible to unravel. They interact all the time and influence one another constantly, so nothing is pure any more. In fact, nothing ever was.”
SlopThis was a favourite of ours as kids. Dad would make it out of whatever happened to be around, and it always seemed to turn out great

This is a selection of our favourite family recipes, so we can keep them and pass them down. Please send the ones you love so I can add them too. The only rule is, you must have tried the recipe first. Enjoy!
